food for thought
Philippians 2:5-7
5Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
6Who, being in very nature[a] God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
7but made himself nothing...
Dang.

Eye shadow
As my thoughts are wondering with thinking about all my responsibilities, finances, Kingdom Living, students and much more.. the biggest thing I am thinking about is how BADLY I want some shimmery eye shadow. You may not believe I'm a girl - but I have NO eye shadows to my name. How sad is that?! Well I guess I just haven't had the desire to wear it til now. Nothin like a little shimmer in the Hawiian sun light. :-)
On an exciting note, I got all the money into my account to pay for living here!!!! I cashed some bonds given to me from my grandpa to pay for this time - room & board for 9 months, my Mac, and my plane ticket!! I'm so excited because I absolutely need to start making some payments and the government conveniently put the money in my account like 3-4 weeks after we cashed them :-) haha it's all good.
Off to meetings!

"IT is finished"
So, out of the blue (like most Kona days, I suppose) it just became very gray and gloomy outside. At first I was like "ew" but then I thought about it, and it totally reminds me of the moment Jesus was crucified and the storm came over the earth. Maybe he planned it for today, or maybe he just put it in my mind :-) Either way I think it's powerful. I hope every believer is able to take some time out today to reflect on the immense sacrifice our Savior made for us this day, 2000 years ago. May he bless you this day!
By the way, look at the last picture of the view from my window... so drastic from the pic I posted last week!

GOOD Friday
Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face;
and the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace
Oh God, thank you

Learning about myself
So, since I signed up for being on staff, it was vital for me to take the "strength finders" test to find out my top 5 strengths. It took quite a bit of time to take the test, but it's really interesting to see what your strengths are and how you can work with them. My top 5 strengths are: Developer, Empathy, Input, Relator, and Individualization. Ummm basically I'm learning about each one of these, but one thing that God has been workin hard on me with, is empathy. Because I have such a heart for people, I put myself totally into their situation when they are hurting, so I can comfort them somehow. This can be good, however I tend to take it to the extreme. When people come to me with their burdens and hurts, I tend to take all the pain upon myself and not let it go. This is a very UNHEALTHY way to use a very powerful strength. So I'm praying right now and letting the Lord help me to give up those pains to Him. It's pretty rad. There's new things to learn every single day in this thing called the Christian Walk!! It's exciting, painful, ugly, fun, encouraging ohh man and so much more. Anyway that's my thought for the moment. I'd love to blog more but it's kinda weird because I feel like I have too much to say that I'd rather not say anything at all - because that would require composing my thoughts! ;-)

I had a great time at the beach today with my friend Potter... BUT I am terrible burnt. Luckily my face was protected, and I thought I sunscreened every inch but apparently not. Don't know how well it shows up on this pic... but trust me, I'm RED!!
P.S. I apologize for looking so scary... my mascara is everywhere!!

Thus far...
Wow, Kona has been so wonderful... God is so wonderful. To be honest, I had this dread about comin back because of how much I LOVE Oregon, and am not the biggest fan of hot Hawaii. But since I've been here I have this amazing refreshed view of Kona, it's like I've never been here and everything is so beautiful and attractive to me. It's totally a God thing for changing my attitude!
Staff training has been great as well. We have 2 meetings a day typically and so far we've done a lot of praying for each other as we take on this leadership role, but also today we started praying for the students and reading through their applications out loud. Call me naive, but I am looking forward to every part of being on staff - grading papers, doing one on ones with students and encouraging them in their walks, planning school events, being in charge of hospitality and driving people with campus vehicles etc. Everything is great and I'm so ready for the challenge. I've got this amazing confidence that's only from God, because I could and would not do this without Him!!
Last night was a transforming time for me. We had the usual Thursday night all campus gathering, and our speaker talked about the spirit of religion that rules so many of us. It's a scheme of the enemy for sure, because Jesus hated religion. Therefore I HATE religion. It's all about a loving relationship with Christ. But so often we Christians set ourselves as standards that others should be like. "Well... she's not worshipping like me, she must not be close to God." or " They're talking during our speaker, they are so off track with God." and dumb crap like that. SO, we as a congregation broke off the spirit of religion in our lives so that we may walk in freedom of Christ!! WOOOHOOO I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blessings

Kona :-)
So, I arrived safely yesterday evening at 6 o'clock. In fact I had a great flight, and made friends with a middle aged couple - they were rad. I am in a temporary room for a couple weeks then they'll move me to a more permanent place.
I just wanted to show off the view from my current room :-) Enjoy!
Those are the kids in the pre-school below me.

hahahah...iking
Well my hiking trip this morning was quite the adventure, I'd say. As my dad and I were driving up the curvy road to the trail head where we were to BEGIN, we ran into some large amounts of snow that our mini van just couldn't handle. SO we parked on the road and hiked the road up! It was so interesting, there would be patches of no snow and patches with TONS of snow. We walked to the trail head then turned around, lol. It was almost 3 miles just from where we parked to the trail head, and we had a time limit. So we decided next time to go in summer when there will be NO snow. So we called the trail head "our summit"
It was a great day though, with amazing memories with my dad.
The icky road we couldn't pass
The cute waterfall by where we parked...
Mile 5 of the road... a couple miles from our car
Pretty view!

Hiking tomorrow
Well quite honestly I have lots of things I am gonna write about... but the biggest thing right now is that I am pumped to hike Mary's Peak tomorrow morning with my amazing dad. I just love him - I couldn't have been more blessed. He and I decided we needed to do this hike during my time at home, so here we are the week before I leave! haha at least we are able to do it and he keeps his word. I am so thankful. I'll post pics and report how the hike went :o)
On another note I just hung out with my good high school pal, Leah Loe at her place at Western Oregon. It was lovely and I just love her company. I picked her up, we went to Muchas Gracias in Monmouth then got hot chocolate on campus, then watched "My Big Fat Greek Wedding." I had never seen it before! I know, right? I'm way behind the times. Anyways that was awesome and I just love her.
Chris - I tried the Kahlua Kicker today at Dutch Bros and UH OH!!!! I'm in trouble lol. It was so tasty, fattning, and cheap! I need to re-learn to control myself with goodies. But I definitely thought of you when I got it! ;-)
On ANOTHER note, I am really getting excited to go back to Kona. I think the biggest thing I'm pumped for is that I will have a busy schedule and I won't have so much free / bored time. Plus what I'll be doing will make a difference for the Kingdom which is the very best part. Staff training will be SO challenging, and I will need to relearn to go to Jesus for EVERYTHING I say to my students. That will be an amazing and very challenging process. I'm pumped and I could use all the prayers possible from you blog readers!
I love talking to friends I don't see often, and them saying something about what I wrote in one of my blogs. I didn't realize so many people read my site! I'm pumped about that. I never knew...
Ok well I think that's it for now. Thanks for reading ya'll, and leave me a comment!! :-)
Peace~ Britney

Great Weekend
Oh I just love my friends!! Amy Spivey is my God send and I am so grateful for her. I appreciate her friendship so much especially since I can only see her on weekends (since she lives in Portland). Normally she comes down on Saturday afternoons and leaves Sunday nights (as in like 3 am), but this weekend she came down Friday evening. Together we went shopping late into the evening for the perfect bridal shower gifts for Stephanie. The thing is, Steph is a major jokester so we wanted to joke with her. So we got her some.. well.. not so 'bridal shower' worthy gifts - except a laundry basket and cute pic frame. The rest was a little ris-kay and should've been saved for another time. As she was opening all her lovely home accessories at the party ... she came to our gifts and I don't remember the last time I blushed so much. Everyone was kinda awkward about it - at least the bride wasn't.
So anyhow, that was fun. We O.D.'d on photobooth pics which are on my facebook - check them out. Here's a cute one we took :o)
